Founded in 2016 by Priska Leta Isyanto Putri and Stephanus Arie Sugiyo Pranoto, APConsultant has completed various commercial, residential and hospitality architectural projects. The Semarang-based architecture and interior design studio was chosen to develop the design of Le Temple hotel. Here is a snippet of Indonesia Design’s conversation with APConsultant’s principal architects, Priska, and Arie.
What was the brief from the client?
Priska: The client wanted Le Temple to be designed in a more glamourous and modern way without leaving the initial concept of the first two villas. They wanted us to enhance the design, as in making it bigger and more comfortable for any kind of guest, and to use materials that are easier to maintain. They also wanted to have a few types of villas that can cater for private events for bigger groups.
Arie: And because dining is an important part of
Le Temple’s service, they wanted to have a more proper restaurant and kitchen. An open-aired restaurant with casual ambiance, which has a different vibe from other restaurants in Borobudur area. What’s more, the client wanted to provide a private experience for guests where they could dine with a 360 view.
Tell us about the concept and style of the design that you came up with.
Priska: The concept is traditional meets modern glam. It was born out of the client’s request to make the design more luxurious, maintaining a strong Borobudur character.
What were the most challenging things in the designing process?
Priska: The most challenging thing was to combine the philosophies of a temple with modern design principles – the combination had to have a specific geometrical composition using circles and stupas, a depiction of the silhouette of Mount Mahameru, and a symmetry for all elements.
Arie: Actually, Le Temple is an interesting project for us because we can infuse heritage concepts, such as the philosophies of a temple, and combine them with modern design principles.
