In continuation with my previous article about luxury according to Feng Shui, let me share more about the way a Feng Shui practitioner thinks as he creates the layout of a design in the way his client can enjoy the luxury they so desire
In the previous article, luxury in the eye of an architect or an interior designer can be found in things that tend to be tangible. On the contrary, a Feng Shui practitioner sees luxury as something intangible. A Feng Shui practitioner sees luxury in a property when the user can work, perform well, live healthy and obtain a harmonious lifestyle. Honestly speaking, when we consider these real ‘luxuries’ in life, does anything else matter? Dr. Alexi Marmot said that “Designers often aspire to do more than simply create buildings that are new, functional and attractive—they promise that a new environment will change behaviours and attitudes.” The question that arises next is: what kind of behaviours and attitudes is he talking about? What sort of behaviours and attitudes can be triggered by a functional and attractive design? Indeed, this is not an easy question to answer.
Looking at the myriad of information that is shared through social media, I am concerned about the bias news we receive on a consistent basis. News from mass media is no less upsetting as it exposes how criminals these days seem to have lost all moral compass and conscience, especially when we talk about white-collar criminals. Recently we have seen the extravagance of a house belonging to a young couple who has scammed many people. They arranged the house magnificently—presumably by spending tons of cash—but is that the real meaning of luxury? What is the meaning of all the opulent designs if in the end there is a risk of dealing with law enforcement officers? The study of Feng Shui with its holistic values can fill this gap— Feng Shui is able to answer these questions.
People generally assume that the principles of Feng Shui are only to ensure the wellbeing and wealth of property owners; however, this is actually not the case. The main objective of implementing Feng Shui principles in a building design is to seek an equilibrium so that the user can become wise, or to awaken his wisdom, so to speak. This is one of the luxuries according to the study of Feng Shui.
In order to become wise, you need to possess a rational logic and a benevolent conscience. From the medical field, we learn about how the human brain is filled with electric sparks across its synapses. With this information, Feng Shui concludes that the ‘wrong’ electromagnetic wave from earth might cause the user of a building to think in a ‘wrong’ way.
The study of Feng Shui calculates the energy pattern of the user in relation to the energy pattern of the building to ensure that both of them are in harmony. When this harmony is achieved, then it is expected that the user can have the wisdom in their lifestyle. By implementing these calculation methods in the study of Feng Shui, we can learn about the distribution pattern of the energy that runs through a building or a room, the positioning of a working desk or sleeping direction—and thus calculating their positive or negative effects towards the user. Obviously, in this process, we all want an optimal positive effect and seek to eliminate any negative effect that might take place. This is where a Feng Shui consultant plays a part. It is impossible for me to talk in great detail of how the calculations are done by Feng Shui practitioners. However, it is generally known that classical Feng Shui practitioners always do their calculations based on formulas in ancient books that are passed from teachers to pupils, from one generation to the next. That’s all I can share with you in this article, ‘be in equilibrium!’.
