Contemporary art festival ARTJOG is back with the theme “Motive: Ramalan (Motive: Forecast)”, focusing on dissecting the constraints of time, space, and their interconnection to comprehend an event. This time, guest curator Hendro Wiyanto joins the ARTJOG curatorial team.
The exhibition features works from 48 adult artists from Indonesia and overseas, as well as 36 child and teenage artists. The festival also includes supporting programs such as the Young Artist Award, ARTJOG Kids, performa•ARTJOG, Exhibition Tour, Meet the Artist, Artcare, and Jogja Art Weeks.
The opening event on 28 June 2024 was packed with artists, art enthusiasts and the artists’ closest supporters such as friends and families. It began with a welcome speech by the director of ARTJOG, Heri Pemad, followed by a greeting from the guest curator Hendro Wiyanto, a cultural oration by Romo Sindhunata, and a speech by Iwan Lukminto, the founder of the Tumurun Museum, Solo. International dancer specialised in classical Javanese dance Rianto and Papua born and raised composer and singer Septina Layan gave a magical performance at the ceremony.
On this occasion, the winners of the 2024 Young Artist Award (YAA) were also announced. The jury team consisting of Santi Ariestyowati, Handiwirman, and the ARTJOG curatorial team selected three of the 14 young artists under 35 years old based on suitability of theme, medium exploration, technical novelty and presentation. The winners of YAA 2024 are Dede Cipon (Yogyakarta), Jay Afrisando (California), and Alisa Chuncue (Bangkok).
