An Offering to Design
For over a decade, Indonesia Design has been thinking about creating a regional design edition. With the rapid development of creative design in Indonesia, we thought that this year will be a great time to actually do it: Bali was chosen to be the first as it shows a melting pot of design, not only traditional but also adopted design elements from outside the island and beyond.
Our launch of the edition was held on 23 July 2013 at Townhouse, a venue in Seminyak presented by New York nightlife specialist, Mark Baker. The party was enjoyed by our editorial team, featured architects, designers, artists and supportive clients and close friends. The guest enjoyed socializing whilst making new connections and sipping on free flow cocktails, wine and canapés served up in style by the Townhouse bartenders and kitchen brigade.
The crowd shared the happiness of having the edition launched when our Editor-in-Chief, Lina Gan, unveiled a frame with our 63rd edition’s artwork cover by I NyomanMasriadi to officially launch the ‘Made in Bali’ edition. The joy and appreciation was also extended during the announcement of our door prize winners. The lucky winners took home vouchers from Grand Hyatt Jakarta, The Bale and The Santai, a dining voucher from Turkuaz Restaurant and an exclusive design of Tulola Jewelry.A fashion show famed the eveningshowcasing collections where architectural design principals were infused into garment design. ‘Infusing Architecture in Fashion’ was presented by four of Bali’s most prominent fashion designers that are featured in our Design Focus section of the ‘Made in Bali’ edition.
Ali Charisma, captured the beauty of the Himalayan nature and Mount Everest’s peak with its eternal snow through his collection that is also inspired by the surrounding architecture known as Dzong. In the collection of Arturro by Arthur Abednego, the guest found interesting pieces of abstract-printed fabric combined with curves in a resort wear collection. One of Bali’s finest designers, Oka Diputra, showed his concerns about the rapid development in Bali through his collection. The fashion show was glamorously concluded with Risma Handayani and Axel Morgenthaler’s design; a black sheer dress with theatrical LED lighting. Applause was given to the designers and the guests hanged out until late that evening enjoying the music played by an international DJ.
