Bag Business: Turning Photography Passion Into Profit

11/20/2017

Many claim to have a hobby in photography, but three designers/entrepreneurs took it a step further by turning their passion into carriers. You may have seen their products in our previous editions, but let's take another look at their creations.

Imagery Bags & Carry Goods

Industrial design graduates Iqra Tanzil and Findhika Putra's deep interest in photography is evident in the amount of camera lenses they carry on a trip. The problem is the lack of camera bags that can fulfil their distinct needs.

This was the starting point of Imagery, a line of cool carriers for travellers, the design-savvy, and photography enthusiasts.

Iqra and Findhika had initially planned to design their dream camera bag and sell it, but soon after the brand Imagery was established in 2012, the two continued their efforts to creating small leather goods. Their name card wallet, iPad pouch, and other items became the favourites of designers due to their thoughtful design and fine authentic leather.

Today, the Bandung-based brand is best known for their Sherman Tote Bag, which doubles as a back pack. Other nifty carriers include the Basel Dopp series and Isaac Rucksacks. While bags by Imagery come in a variety of sizes, larger ones come with padded laptop compartment. What each bag has in common is the “Made in Indonesia” label that proudly informs wearers where the bags came from.

TFG Traveling

When photography and travel lover Edwin Yanee started his business, he started small with things he likes: eye-catching camera straps. With good sales in concept stores throughout Java and Bali, Edwin continues to make carry goods.
The brand was first introduced as Taylor Fine Goods (TFG), but with a number of carry goods, Edwin decided to rebrand into TFG Traveling. From their Instagram account, you can see people posting their TFG collection from many places around the world.

An avid business book reader and entrepreneur, Edwin was inspired by the marketing idea behind the UK-based Superdry, which put conspicuous “Tokyo, Japan” on its designs. This explains the minimalist Japanese graphics on TFG bags.

Besides the design, the next best thing about TFG must be the lifetime warranty that comes with each product.
