Indonesia Design Week (IDW) returns in 2025 with an expansive lineup of engaging events and programmes that celebrate the creativity, innovation, and collaboration shaping Indonesia’s design industry. This year’s edition promises to be bigger, bolder, and more dynamic—captivating design enthusiasts, industry professionals, and the public alike. As one of IDW’s proud media partners, Indonesia Design explores the event’s significance, emerging trends, cultural impact, and the exciting opportunities it presents.
Indonesia Design Week (IDW), the flagship event of Indonesia Design District (IDD) PIK2, returns from 12–20 September 2025 for a 10-day celebration of the country’s vibrant and diverse design scene. This year’s programme invites a broader conversation around creativity, innovation, and cross-cultural collaboration. It showcases both local and international perspectives. It highlights how design serves as a universal language, connecting ideas, communities, and cultures across borders.
This dynamic spirit takes shape through immersive installations and interactive experiences across the district. At the Market Hall, visitors can explore a vibrant design exhibition featuring both local and international brands that boast a showcase of global trends and groundbreaking innovations. Meanwhile, Artisan Alley at the Mandapa features a curated bazaar that celebrates Indonesian craftsmanship, inviting guests to engage with the rich textures and stories that define the soul of Indonesian design.
Signature programmes such as Millimeter Manifesto highlight the work of nine Indonesian product designers, united by a shared belief in the subtle power of design. These curated features invite reflection on how thoughtful design can shape meaningful experiences and impact everyday life.
This year, IDW deepens its focus on global and regional design discourse through collaborations with renowned design publications, including Archinesia, Dezeen, and Design Anthology. These partners will host design dialogues and panel discussions that elevate the conversation around innovation, sustainability, and the future of design.
IDW also strengthens ties with retail tenants through in-store events, ceremonial product launches, and exclusive installations from brands such as SMEG, Snaidero, Toto, and MM Galleri. These initiatives infuse the retail environment with the spirit of the festival, giving brands a unique platform to connect with audiences in fresh, meaningful ways.
Complementing the exhibitions are public-facing programmes that invite visitors to participate directly in the creative process. Interactive workshops and design demonstrations offer behind-the-scenes access to the minds and methods of makers, giving guests the opportunity to engage with designers and understand the stories behind each work.
To further nurture the next generation of talent, IDW 2025 offers guided insight tours tailored for university students, creative communities, and design firms. A dedicated student exhibition will spotlight emerging voices, showcasing projects that challenge convention and offer bold, experimental takes on contemporary design.
Adding a fun and unexpected twist to the festivities, IDW 2025 introduces the Firm Office Grand Prix. It’s the first-ever competition for racing office chairs. This light-hearted event brings a sense of play into the professional realm, fostering camaraderie and community while celebrating design in motion.
In keeping with its values, IDW 2025 also gives back. The ‘Sip & Tip’ event at BIKA Living sees designers and brand owners step behind the bar to serve food and drinks, with all tips donated to @merawatpapua, a community-driven initiative that empowers local communities in Papua.
This year’s Indonesia Design Week is full of collaboration between its tenants and renowned Indonesian designers, and the international collaboration between international brands, such as the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and Studio Hendro Hadinata. IDW also held design talks with international designers and will welcome Marva Griffin, the founder of SaloneSatellite, as its guest of honour. Marva will also be doing a seminar at Indonesia Design Week during his first visit to the event.
Supported by the Ministry of Creative Economy (EKRAF) and media partners such as Design Anthology, Dezeen, Indonesia Design, Archinesia, and the MRA Group, IDW 2025 reflects a strong collective commitment to raising the bar for Indonesian design. The event serves not only as a celebration but also as a catalyst for sustainable industry growth and creative exchange.
From immersive exhibitions to thought-provoking talks and joyful community moments, Indonesia Design Week 2025 is a call to embrace the power of design. The event that makes accessible, engaging, and transformative for everyone.
