Harry Fatkan is the founder and creative director behind REALINO Design & Contract, the lead designer for the new GALLERIA Surabaya showroom. He discusses the concept of designing the new showroom in an interview with Indonesia Design.
The main concept behind designing the GALLERIA Surabaya showroom was to present a premium sanitary and building material space that feels both luxurious and homey. My intention was to create a showroom that not only displays products but also offers a boutique-like shopping experience characterized by modern luxury and functional elegance. In this concept, sophistication is not only visual but also experienced through spatial comfort and usability.
The showroom is located in the heart of Surabaya, an urban area with heavy traffic. This created a unique design challenge. The façade and interior needed to catch the attention of people passing by while offering a calm and enjoyable shopping experience once visitors entered the space. With a wide selection of premium brands offered, a strategic layout was highly important. To achieve this, I developed a circulation concept that allows visitors to navigate every brand comfortably across multiple levels. Even though the displays are located on different levels, direct lift access from the main lobby enables smooth movement between floors.
Collaboration with participating brands and carefu attention to detail became the core of the design process. Each floor is equipped with a luxuriously designed restroom, not only for customer use but also as an immersive display experience, showing how the products can be applied to create an atmosphere that defines the character of a space. Every restroom has its own unique design concept.
As the largest showroom among all GALLERIA locations, the rooftop area stands as one of its most distinctive architectural highlights. It was designed with an exposed steel structure combined with patterned glass that forms an elegant dome. This creates an open-air environment with a panoramic view of Surabaya, allowing visitors not only to explore premium products but also to enjoy an inspiring and memorable spatial experience.
To support designers in their creative work, the showroom also offers a luxurious meeting room equipped with high-speed internet and a large display screen. This space provides a practical and comfortable environment for designers, clients, and sales consultants to discuss interior projects efficiently and professionally. Through continuous coordination with the owner and GALLERIA management and through design adjustments that follow the visual identity of each collaborating brand, the project was successfully completed and is now operating to serve customers.
The showroom not only fulfilled the original brief but also evolved into a space that delivers exceptional design value and an unforgettable visitor experience beyond expectations. I hope that every visitor leaves with a positive and inspiring story. Shopping at GALLERIA is not only about obtaining premium products but also about feeling comfort, inspiration, and outstanding service. With its character and achievements, I believe this showroom will set a new benchmark for GALLERIA in the future.
