As an interior designer, Yuni Jie tops the list as one of Indonesia’s renowned interior designers. But for the past months, her activities as a designer got even busier when she decided to write a book. After a ten-year absence from writing, she launched a beautiful interior design book titled ‘Dream.’
The 512-page book highlights Yuni's design work and dream, which consistently carry the strong ideology of modernism and belief in functionality. Yuni Jie's design is a harmonious blend of Eastern and Western elements, engaging old and new, mixing traditional and contemporary. All are packaged in a good and neat balance. In addition to always appearing warm and urban, another key characteristic of her design is a body of work that is not easily eroded by time (timeless) and flows by itself (effortless).
Her design is well known for its signature in 'The Art of Casual Elegance,' an art to craft a casual aesthetic while still maintaining the elegance contained within. And all of this is created without having to look too much. DREAM is a celebration and compilation of Yuni Jie's design evolution in the last decade, marked by various milestones that have carved great achievements. In the foreword entitled 'A Decade of Timelessness,' Yuni tells her story of ten years full of exploration, process, and inspiration.
Then, the book continues with a visually appealing journey through the deepening of the meaning of each area in a house. Each chapter is divided according to the type of room - starting from the entrance, living room, dining room, kitchen + pantry, master suites + walk-in closet, bedroom, bathroom + powder room, hallway + stairs, study + library, entertainment + playroom to patio + rooftop and presented with careful procession and understanding of each room, the meaning of a home especially after the pandemic is expected to be essential. A home with all its rituals is ultimately a form of appreciation and self-reflection of its occupants.
Very aesthetically pleasing to the eye, this English-written book is filled with explorations of interior design that are not only beautiful but also greatly glorify the functional aspect. The impression of quiet luxury is one of Yuni's unique design strengths.
In addition to being named Woman of The Year 2016 by Herworld magazine, Yuni was also selected as a finalist for the Female Designer Award 2023 by the international publication Design/Anthology. Various works of the interior designer, who graduated with the Honor of Excellence from Pratt Institute New York and Cum-Laude from Cornish College of The Arts Seattle, have been widely published by both domestic and foreign media.
