What are some of the changes you’ve seen during and since the pandemic?

Being locked down during the pandemic has given everyone a new awareness of their living environment. The ability to work remotely has also had a major influence on residential and resort design. We have seen a boom in residential and resort work. There is a greater appreciation for the design of spaces, views, gardens and nature. People are hungry for the outdoors.

What are some upcoming trends in architecture and interiors?

We see profound design trends towards increased indoor-outdoor living. one extremely positive result of the pandemic has been a renewed interest in the natural environment. The relationship between architecture and landscape is becoming further intertwined.

Increasingly, clients are asking for non- air-conditioned spaces, natural light, and cross-ventilation. And clients are seeking a closer relationship to nature. All of this adds up to greater sustainability. Gardens are becoming less contrived, less manicured, and more natural. Nature is attaining an increased level of priority.

There is also a tendency towards a simpler approach to living. Family gathering spaces both indoors and outdoors are becoming a design standard.

How do you anticipate these trends?

In our work as landscape architects, we have always sought to champion nature. In our work as architects, we recognise the joy that a close relationship between architecture and landscape brings to every project.
