What are the trends for office design post-pandemic?

DESIGN TREND

The office will not disappear once the pandemic is over. Although now more people are enjoying the option to work from home, most of us still recognise the need to work at an office, especially when your line of work involves connectivity, community, spontaneity. Hence, more and more businesses now are seeing the office as a place for hybrid working, meaning that employees are not expected to be at the office 100% of their working hours.

Workplace design now takes clues from hospitality design to both reflect the comforts of home while promoting staff wellbeing. These new workplaces provide not only better air flow circulation but also larger breakout spaces, lounges for people to socialise; generally providing the things we missed the most working remotely during pandemic.

SPACE PLANNING

While open floor plans are still preferred, people are more cautious about working in close distances. Providing a break between workstation areas, for example, collaboration areas, phone booths, meeting rooms, and other functions allows such distancing without looking imposed. other solutions such as workstation divider panels or sneeze guards, bigger work desks, in addition to more transitional spaces/ social areas between the workstation clusters as well as more generous circulation paths lend a general feeling of the luxury of space not available before or at home.

COLOURS AND MATERIALS

Bright primary colours are being left behind while more muted colours, neutrals with one or two strong colours for accent. Colours found in nature are preferred as they also enhance the biophilic elements of any green design. Nature-inspired objects and finishes continue this design trend. Stone, terracotta, terrazzo, and wood adds depth and soul into a design while giving a calm ambience that brings nature and the outside world inside.

TECHNOLOGY AND LIGHTING

Technologies in audio video have become essential in the contemporary office. A user-friendly video conferencing room with enhanced acoustic properties and good lighting are in high demand. This is complemented by a well-integrated system for all the electronics in the meeting room.

ARTWORK

Artwork, in form of graphics, sculpture, decorative elements are also becoming more popular these days. Many clients are requesting or adding these elements to make the working space more lively and to reflect the company’s identity.
