How has the pandemic effect the requests from your clients?

Since the pandemic, people favour more open spaces, not just to avoid catching the Covid-19 virus, but to be healthy in general.

We’ve been working on a housing project in Bali, called N residence, where the developer asked for a proper residential design. The houses in this project have a backyard and an inner court. There’s a plunge pool for better air circulation, a deck to enjoy nature and a contemplative bench in the back.

Near the housing entrance there’s a marketing office that shares the building with a coffee shop, a developer’s office and a co-working space. So, the occupants will have an option of working from home, café or in the co-working space, just walking distance from their homes.

Will this work set-up be trending in the future?

It’s an interesting concept. It should be applied in other places too, not just Bali. Bali has been a place for digital nomads since before the pandemic. Near where I live in BSD now, the number of coffee shops is growing. I can work there as an alternative from my home or my office.

How do you anticipate these trends?

These pandemic houses are more open, so we have options whether to install AC or not. Also, for instance, the roof must be able to hold the heat and have cross-ventilation.

The most used materials are the natural ones like bricks and wood. The façade is made of breathing bricks, which means there are holes, not massive. We’re using second skin to protect people inside the building from the strong sun light. Most of the furniture is provided by our other company, Kayunara, because it has the same tropical and Indonesian vibe.
