Cipta Setia Wijaya and Rosie Honggoputri are two of the young and rising designers in the Indonesian design scene, undertaking the management and partner roles at CNS Designworks. Established in 2012, this architecture and interior design consultancy offers diverse and personalised designs that reflect the unique needs and aspirations of its clients. Over time, CNS Designworks has grown into a multidisciplinary team comprising divisions for architecture, interior and decoration, drafting, and project management. Indonesia Design sat down with Cipta and Rosie to discuss the design concept behind MM Galleri.

When you first met with the MM Galleri team, what was the initial message you received from them?
MM Galleri, a market leader in Indonesia known for its advanced technology and high-quality products, engaged us to maximise the potential of a 999 sqm space. Our vision was to create a showroom that not only displayed their products but also offered an immersive experience. It blends exquisite materials with elements of entertainment and community engagement. The aim was to embody MM Galleri’s innovative and creative spirit in a space that delivers a complete sensory and social experience.

How did you approach the concept and design process?
We envisioned a dynamic environment where multiple functions seamlessly coexist, forming an ecosystem that inspires creativity and encourages interaction amongst visitors. The process began with understanding the client’s brand identity, followed by exploring innovative materials and finding the right balance between functionality and aesthetics.

How did you integrate such varied functions into one space?
To merge a showroom with entertainment areas, community spaces, and product displays, we adopted a flexible design approach. We created distinct zones for each function while maintaining an open-plan layout that promotes exploration and interaction. This versatility allows the space to adapt and remain multifunctional over time.

What name would you give to your design for MM Galleri?
Innovation and creativity are at the heart of all our projects, including MM Galleri. Every project is a unique challenge and an opportunity to push boundaries. Although our timeline was tight and there are details that could still be refined, we describe the MM Galleri design as “the beauty of imperfection.” This philosophy allows the space to evolve and stay relevant, with room for continuous refinement that keeps it vibrant for years to come.
