Each year The Dharmawangsa Jakarta creates an interesting event to commemorate the Independence Day of Indonesia. This year, the celebration comes in the form of dining experiences with the theme “Sriwijaya: Gastronomy Treasures of the Maritime Empire”.
A preview dinner for media was held on 11 August 2023 in Sriwijaya Restaurant, adjacent to the entrance of the hotel. The 7-course dinner presented food and beverages that will be available a la carte from 27 August to 3 September 2023. The menu is created by Executive Chef Emmanuel Julio in collaboration with Helianti Hilman, an expert in Indonesia’s food biodiversity and founder of Javara.
The programme is inspired by Sriwijaya Kingdom, which the restaurant is named after, a kingdom that existed from 7th-11th century. The kingdom’s territory includes much of South East Asia and is said to centre in Sumatra. So vast, the culinary influence is varied and comprises almost unlimited ingredients as well as spices. This allows the wide variety of menu, from Kletikan, which is chips made of sweet potato and breadfruit with lontar salsa dip to Martabak Har where foie gras and chicken are wrapped in martabak skin.
Another special programme is the “Sriwijaya High Tea”, which is available for the whole month of August 2023 at Majapahit Lounge. Here you can enjoy a delightful array of paired dishes and fine teas using rich herbs and spices of the legendary Sriwijaya empire.
