Each year, KOHLER explores the realms of culture, fashion, entertainment, technology, and other global influences to identify design trends set to dominate and define the upcoming year. As a design leader, KOHLER Indonesia is launching the 2024 Bathroom Design Trends in collaboration with six renowned Indonesian designers, with Indonesia Design as the leading design and lifestyle media partner.

Inspired by the KOHLER products, six renowned Indonesian designers were invited to create the bathroom design trends to symbolize the elevation and inspiration Kohler brings to its audience. This collaboration presents six designers with six bathroom trends.

With over 150 years of experience in leading design trends and being the preferred partner for luxury bathroom specifications, KOHLER Project 6 showcases Indonesian design that exceeds expectations. The designs are expressive, tell personal stories, and feature pieces that combine extreme detail with the highest quality materials.

The KOHLER Project 6 event was held on 13 March 2024 at the KOHLER Experience Center, attended by over 60 prominent architects and interior designers interested in the KOHLER 2024 Bathroom Design Trends.

Hidajat Endramukti

Hidajat Endramukti is an acclaimed interior designer with dozens of years of experience. The graduate of Delft University has become a guru for those involved in the Indonesian design scene. Hidajat started nurturing an interest in heritage buildings in high school in Malang, East Java. His numerous projects evince a sophistication that draws upon Peranakan architecture. He is also deeply concerned with restoring various projects and other heritage buildings.

Reader’s Bathroom

The reading room-inspired bathroom appeals to book collectors and print afficionados. The space goes beyond the practical functions and everyday use of a bathroom and transcends into a classic refuge for book lovers with collections of designers and poetry books. The space resembles as much a cosy library as a retreat for personal hygiene, allowing a moment of silence and quiet intellect to ground the user. The design incorporates a modern classic style with a twist, adding bathroom faucets in rose gold.

Andra Matin

Andra Matin – both the man and the firm, andramatin is a studio based in Jakarta. The practice was working mainly on residential projects, has now expanded broader scale and type of projects, from furniture to urban design. The work of andramatin has been a constant reflection of contemporary taking on traditional values based on environment context and sensitivity.

Nest Egg Zest

Nest Egg Zest is a generous space highlighting life’s aesthetic and poetry. It’s a bathroom without the traditional layout but a space to relax, rejuvenate, and energize. Designed as a true restroom, without the typical bathroom fixtures, a user can attend to every aspect of personal hygiene and relaxation. They can take a moment to breathe and disconnect from their busy life. The Nest Egg Zest offers panoramic views from every corner of this aesthetic and poetic bathroom.

Yori Antar

Yori Antar, the principal of Han Awal & Partners (HAP), an architecture and planning firm his father established in 1970, is known for mastering the modern tropical style. He has completed numerous conservation projects for Indonesian traditional villages since 2008, starting with Wae Rebo Village in East Nusa Tenggara.

Nature and Nusantara Culture
His design is inspired by the Asmat tribe, the Papuan ethnic known for their expertise in wood carvings and spiritual traditions. Their life revolves around spiritual belts, and they carve their traditions on the Tameng Asmat. The Asmat’s tribute unity and traditions are embodied in the wall’s tribal pattern with ceramic tiles inspired by Asmat culture and nature. From the waves in the sea to the water in the bathroom, the bathtub takes the fluid shape of water.

Alex Bayusaputro

Alex Bayusaputro is a global design consultant who loves Southeast Asia and beyond. With 35 years of experience in luxury development, Alex and his firm Genius Loci have completed design projects ranging from high-end residential, restaurants, retail, boutique hotels and villas. Eclecticism is his hallmark, born from growing up, studying, and working in New York, a city with a healthy mixture of cultures, and it is coupled with a profound love for art and design.

Utopian Bath

Utopia is an imagined space where everything is perfect. Users can disconnect from the external world and retreat into pods intelligently designed to cater to their individual moods, creating a tailored experience for each person. Whether one seeks a calming atmosphere after a hectic day or a refreshing ambiance to start the morning, the pod adapts to the user’s emotional state, offering a unique and immersive experience. It transports the user to a surreal space where the ideal environment is achieved.

Wendy Djuhara

Wendy Djuhara is an architect who founded djuhara+djuhara with her late husband Ahmad Djuhara in 2004. Her work ranges from low-income houses, bus shelters, and schools to commercial projects that put value on functions, context, and experiments in material involving life. Her firm has won several architectural competitions and awards, and its works are published widely.

Unwind

Wendy Djuhara emphasizes the importance of self-care and the luxury of slowing down. Her design blurs the boundaries between inside and outside to create a bathroom to slow down and unwind. In the fast-paced world, the importance of making time for oneself is essential but often overlooked. The luxurious space celebrates the bathing ritual and sets the mind free while being engulfed in natural surroundings. The slightly opaque walls reveal the foliage that can be gazed upon. The bathroom user experiences a slowdown and pampering that emerges from connecting with the natural world.

Santi Alaysius & Hamphrey Tedja

Santi Alaysius and Hamphrey Tedja are award-winning interior designers and architects. They are experts in creating beautiful spaces and selecting the finest locally available materials. In 2009, Santi and Hamphrey cofounded Domisilium Studio in Jakarta. The firm focuses on custom commercial and hospitality projects of varied design styles and ambiances. While Santi transforms other art forms, such as fashion, art, and industrial design, into interior design components, Hamphrey manages design projects, makes design concepts sparkle, and follows through to the last detail.

Primordial Serenity

The cave-inspired bathroom pays homage to human existence, celebrating the sanctity and simplicity of prehistory caves. This design embodies a reconnection with nature and a secure refuge. Central features are meticulously crafted while stone walls and ceilings to mirror stalactite formations, connecting the bathing space with ancient landscapes. The space bathes in natural light to instil calmness, transforming the bathing ritual into a transcendent experience. The timeless, harmonious retreat transcends complexities and beckons to rediscover the bond between humanity and nature.
