Plaza Senayan strategically stands close to the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex, a popular spot for runners, cyclists, and sports enthusiasts who often wrap up their early morning workouts and gather for breakfast and conversation, still dressed in their sportswear. This served as inspiration for the Kajima team to conceptualize a sports hub tailored to this demographic, complete with locker rooms for changing, shower facilities, and a resting area. The hub caters not only to sports enthusiasts but also to commuters in general.
Noriyuki Hirai, the general manager of design and construction management division of STS, explained about this two-storey building project, “Facilities like this are already commonplace in Japan, well known as ‘running stations,’ which are used by office workers on weekdays and citizens at weekends.”
With sustainability and short construction period in mind, the design team chose to reuse shipping containers to form the three-dimensional structure of the building, and completed it as a building while providing structural reinforcement. In addition, they also incorporate Aluminium Composite Panels (ACP) for some parts to create a modern and sharp accent. The floor is elevated to enhance visibility from the outside.
The interior has a simple and clean feel. The atrium staircase has a sharp design with the same flooring materials used from the entrance to maintain continuity. The glass blocks used on one side of the walls allow natural light to the interior space. The lockers and shower room on the first floor is dedicated to women, as they are distinct from the male counterparts on the second floor. Some of the finishing materials include the tiles from INAX called Ecokarat, which can absorb and reduce odours as well as moisture.
LIXIL Water Technology, a global pioneer and market leader in bathroom products, is committed to consistently improving the comfort and quality of the bathroom experience. Among the products installed at Senayan Sport Hub are the Aerozen G2 Shower Toilet by American Standard. This advanced shower toilet boasts an electronic bidet with spa-like features, offering a luxurious experience. Moreover, the Tempesta 210 head shower, equipped with the DreamSpray feature, delivers refreshing water sprays that are gentle on the skin. Last but not the least is the Eurosmart Cosmopolitan trimset shower from GROHE, known for its minimalist design and user-friendly SilkMove technology.
The combination of these products will surely elevate the comfort of sport enthusiasts and contribute to the growth of the sport culture in Jakarta.
