Batik of Yogyakarta

Thousands of years of history and stories have been etched over and over again on cloths with a canting, creating one of Indonesia’s most prominent cultural witness: batik cloths. Numerous patterns, telling stories of kingdoms, people, and foreign trades, have emerged across the archipelago. One of the strongest batik traditions is found at the southern tip of central Java, in the city of Yogyakarta.
