ARM Architecture is Australia’s leading architecture, urban design and interior design practice. With offices in Melbourne & Perth, they have an international reputation for creating culturally significant buildings and precincts that stretch the boundaries of architectural and urban thought.
The firm was founded in 1988 by Stephen Ashton, Howard Raggatt and Ian McDougall. These three founding directors were joint winners of the 2016 Gold Medal, the highest honour awarded by the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA). For nearly three decades, ARM has received 70 state and national AIA awards. They are the only firm in Australia which has been awarded the Victorian Architecture Medal for six times. Some of ARM distinguished, unique and iconic projects across Australia are Barak Building, Geelong Library and Heritage Centre, Melbourne Recital Centre, MTC Southbank Theatre, Perth Arena and many more.
ARM successful innovation relies on a strong ethos of research and consistently maintaining their quality works by sharing the same hallmarks in every project. From large urban masterplans to subtle interventions, such as: in-depth research into history, culture and urban context, true lateral thinking, individual and outside-the-box outcomes, genuine consultation and collaboration with clients, delivery on time and on budget and last but not least of course satisfied clients.
Besides their reputation for building creativity and innovation, ARM Architecture also cultivates eager talents from the early stages. Several senior staffs are lecturers and tutors for the schools of architecture at RMIT University and the University of Melbourne, and often appear as guest lecturers at other institutions. They also sponsor prizes for RMIT and University of Western Australia architecture students.
