The Operatic Concert “Tribute to Maria Callas”, presented under collaboration of Ciputra Artpreneur, Embassy of Italy in Jakarta, was successfully held on 7 October 2023 at Ciputra Artpreneur Theater, Jakarta. The concert was held twice in one day and both were packed with audience who was eager to enjoy the performances of outstanding opera singers and musicians from Indonesia and Italy.
The concert was a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Maria Callas, the legendary soprano opera singer and the iconic diva of the 20th century, famously known as La Divina. It featured Italian and Indonesian singers, Felicia Bongiovanni, Regina Handoko, and Dario Ricchizzi, with the support of the Batavia Madrigal Singers and the Jakarta Concert Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Massimiliano Sinceri and Chorus Master Avip Priatna. The compositions written by Rossini and Verdi were performed skilfully by the musicians and singers. Some of the songs were ‘Il Barbiere Di Siviglia’, ‘La Boheme’, ‘Tosca’ and more, which were popularised by Maria Callas.
Seeing how full the venue was for both of the shows indicated how the appreciation towards classical music and opera has increased in Indonesia. And it is expected to resuscitate the golden works through the successors of Maria Callas as a token of admiration towards the diva.
