The 12-hectare creative district at PIK2 gently shifted into a lively centre of ideas and innovation as Indonesia Design Week (IDW) 2025 opened on Friday, 12 September 2025. Running until 21 September, this second edition offers a broader and more engaging experience, creating an inviting atmosphere for designers, industry players, and curious visitors. This year, Indonesia Design Week features not only diverse installations and interactive showcases but also a spirit of collaboration supported by key creative institutions and media platforms. Indonesia Design is pleased to be one of its media partners and to host the event’s opening celebration.
From the moment visitors step inside, they are greeted by a landscape alive with creativity. Every corner of the sprawling venue hosts artistic installations, concept exhibitions, and interactive spaces that invite people not just to observe but to participate.
IDD Chief Executive Officer Ipeng Widjojo explained that this year IDW’s program underscores design’s ability to reflect identity, tell stories, and act as a bridge between local heritage and the global stage. Indonesia, he noted, is stepping forward not as a passive consumer but as a creative contributor with its narratives and innovations to share with the world. “IDW 2025 is a platform that brings together local and international perspectives, while emphasizing the role of design as a universal language that unites ideas, communities, and cultures across.
Attended by the Minister of Creative Economy (Ekraf), Teuku Riefky Harsya, and his deputy, Irene Umar, the minister emphasized that Indonesia Design Week 2025 will drive the growth of Indonesia’s creative talent. "We believe that Indonesia's creative economy will become a new engine for national economic growth and become part of the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045," expressed the Minister of Creative Economy at the opening of IDW 2025.
The IDW 2025 event feels even more special thanks to the presence of Marva Griffin, founder of SaloneSatellite. Marva Griffin expressed her enthusiasm to be present at IDW 2025. "I can't wait to start discussing and collaborating on what SaloneSatellite can do with this event," said Marva.
The opening celebrations began with guests arriving at the Magna and Elmirai showroom before being transported in XPeng cars to the nearest entrance of Market Hall for the main gathering. The evening continued with a dinner by Vertu, al fresco style, in Tropical Mirage, an open installation crafted by DMDIO, Singres, and EVERY, then concluded with a cocktail party at the MORPH Lounge in MM Galleri.
The IDW 2025 main gathering also served as the launching event for the 106th Indonesia Design edition, which serves as the Indonesia Design Week official publication.
