Artist Designer In Residence (ADIR), initiated and organised by CushCush Gallery, is entering an exciting new chapter. Created to explore the intersections of art, design, craft and cultural exchange, the programme brings together different cultures and perspectives, allowing new ideas to emerge through meaningful collaboration.
Following three successful editions, ADIR is expanding into a cross-residency program in partnership with Arcade – Design à la campagne®, the French Embassy in Indonesia and the Institut Français d’Indonésie, with the support of the Institut Français, the Direction Generale des Affaires Culturelles de la Région Franche- Comté, Région Franche- Comté, and CushCush. The 2026-2027 edition is inviting one Indonesian and one French designer to participate in the residency spanning Bali and Burgundy.
This edition responds to Tomorrow, Forests, Arcade’s multidisciplinary initiative exploring the future of forests through science, traditional knowledge, culture and creativity. From biodiversity loss and ecological degradation to sustainable resource management and the preservation of forestry-related crafts, the programme addresses concerns shared by communities in both Burgundy and Bali.
Representing France is Clara Rivière, a designer from Southwestern France whose work is deeply informed by nature. A graduate of ENSCI–Les Ateliers, she established her studio in 2018 and creates objects that encourage contemporary rituals and greater respect for living systems. Her collaborators include Hermès, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance and Iratzoki Studio, while her works have appeared in museums, galleries and public spaces across France.
Joining her is Bali-based industrial designer Cokorda G.B. Suryanata, founder of Studio Banda. Trained at Institut Teknologi Bandung and shaped by formative experiences in Tokyo, he approaches craft as a living form of knowledge. His experimental practice explores material behaviour, everyday gestures and unconventional production techniques across furniture, lighting, objects and electronics. His work was presented at SaloneSatellite 2026 in Milan, and he currently chairs the Bali Chapter of the Indonesian Industrial Design Alliance.
Together, the two designers will transform shared environmental concerns into fresh creative possibilities—building a thoughtful bridge between Bali and Burgundy.
