Arkiv Vilmansa, a contemporary Indonesian artist, is known for his visually striking works that draw inspiration from popular culture. At the Widya Segara art exhibition, held at Locca Sea House, Jimbaran, Bali from 14 December 2024 to 11 January 2025, his artistic vision was showcased, offering profound perspectives to both local and international audiences. Organized by Galeri ZEN1, this event was to celebrate culture that blends contemporary art with the natural beauty of Bali. Arkiv’s works merged traditional and modern elements in a unique collection.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is Ragga, a floating whale installation. Measuring 30 meters in length, 9 meters in height, and 12 meters in width, it represents the intersection of myth, nature, and environmental awareness. Alongside Ragga is Runna, a slightly smaller whale installation. Inspired by Arkiv’s reflections on environmental vulnerability and the urgent need to rekindle humanity’s connection with nature, the whales symbolize power, mystery, and the vastness of the ocean. Gracefully suspended above the sea at Locca Sea House, Ragga offers a visually striking experience, serving as both a captivating installation and a symbol of hope for environmental preservation and unity.

Beside Ragga stands Domma, another iconic piece by Arkiv—a mythical figure that reflects the human condition and the complex relationship between humanity and nature. Together, Ragga and Domma invite visitors to contemplate the delicate balance between humans and the natural world while considering the immense forces shaping our future.

“Art has always been my way of connecting with the world around me, and this collection is inspired by Bali’s landscapes, culture, and traditions. It is a celebration of both the past and the future,” said Arkiv.

Nicolaus Kuswanto, Founder of Galeri ZEN1 and organizer of the event, stated, “We are proud to present Arkiv Vilmansa’s work as part of the Widya Segara exhibition. His art speaks to the heart of Indonesian culture while challenging the boundaries of contemporary practice. This collaboration is a significant moment for us, and we are thrilled to see how these works will be received by local and international audiences.”

“Arkiv, along with Ragga and Runna, represents the revival of the Ulam Agung event from the past when whales were stranded on the shores of Tabanan. This was believed to symbolize a source of blessings for the Balinese community—sacred and noble,” said the Regent of Tabanan, Dr. I Komang Gede Sanjaya.

The event highlighted vibrant local talents, including Teja Astawa, Ida Bagus Purwa, Made Bayak, Suarnata, Satya Cipta, Nyoman Sani, Made Wianta, Kun Adnyana, Kenyem, Made Wiradana, Apel Hendrawan, Npaw, Kencut, Dully, Bayu Pramana, and Putu Winata. Their works offer unique interpretations of Bali’s culture, spirituality, and nature, complementing Arkiv’s artistic vision with dynamic narratives.
