‘The City of Students’ is the nickname Indonesians have presented to Yogyakarta. The subjects of studies offered vary from one academic institution to another, but there is one that became so synonymous with the city, it has given Yogyakarta its second nickname, ‘The City of Arts’. With the passage of time and the acculturation of the Javanese culture, the visual art in the city – and consequently, the country – is becoming increasingly dynamic. ArtJog finds itself in the midst of this phenomenon as Indonesia’s most anticipated art fair.
