Saké-yo - Authentic Flavors with a Modern Twist

3/14/2022

Quality ingredients, skillful team and modern design: Saké-yo is a go-to for any discerning foodie looking for delectable Japanese bites and beverages in Surabaya.

Born from the passion of owner Seriwati Chandra from Alma Group Surabaya, Saké-yo brings authentic Japanese flavours to this bustling city. With a culinary team lead by Executive Chef Toshikazu Kamibeppu, Saké-yo invites Japanese cuisine connoisseurs and enthusiasts to enjoy delicacies from the Land of the Rising Sun.

Toshikazu brings more than 30 years of international experience, including stints in Tokyo, Singapore, Bangkok and Honduras. On Toshikazu’s side is Chef Alexander William, who has honed his skills and gained experience in preparing Japanese cuisine in Japan, Malaysia, Cambodia and Indonesia for 12 years. Together with the team, Toshikazu and Alexander showcase their unrivalled penchant for Japanese cuisine and fresh, high-quality ingredients, to ensure each dish at Saké-yo prepared with meticulous attention-to-detail and love.

The Omakase menu at Saké-yo is perfect for diners who really want to appreciate the chef’s tricks of the trade and to discover new taste sensations. (In Japanese, Omakase is short for omakase shimasu which translates as: I trust you chef). The chef designs the set menu for you, based on the freshest ingredients that day. In addition to the stellar Omakase menu, Saké-yo also offers a smorgasbord of Japanese delicacies. The expansive sushi and sashimi menu includes nigiri, hosomaki and temaki. The Agemono section highlights fried favorites, with various tempura combinations and chicken katsu. Light bites come in robatayaki and yakitori forms, while a comfort meal is satisfied with the Nabemono (hot pot) and noodle sections, as well as the shabu shabu – using only the highest quality of Japanese beef. These culinary delights are complemented by Saké-yo’s sake selection, which is the largest in the city.

Conceptualised by Seriwati herself, the restaurant design showcases contemporary setting and comfortable ambiance with airy spaces and an earthy palette, while incorporating an unmistakable Japanese aesthetic. Alma Group Surabaya, well-known for its F&Bs destinations, established Almaluna Bar & Resto, The Library Coffee & Pastries and Sing Kei Yat Dimsum House.
