Sights and sounds are fused into this newly-opened brand of Hyatt Hotels Corporation on the Island of the Gods. With 25 Andaz hotels currently operating across 15 countries, the first Andaz resort in Asia and the first Andaz brand in Indonesia is turning heads thanks to its contemporary take on rich, traditional Balinese village heritage. Sophisticated and charming, yet subtle in its styling, the discerning eye will truly appreciate this property’s inner beauty and character that speaks the meaning of its name; personal style.

The lobby of Andaz Bali

Debuting in April 2021, Andaz Bali is nestled in a quaint seaside village in the heart of Sanur, taking you to an ocean renowned for its old-world charm, crystal blue waters, white-sand beaches and breath-taking sunrise. The resort boasts a contemporary twist in the traditional Balinese community and way of living, fusing the island’s rich history with the influences of artists from various places who have made Sanur their home for years.

Andaz Bali is hidden amidst the lush greenery and encompasses 149 guestrooms, including 18 Garden Villas and four Beach Villas. From the size of 66 square metres, all are uniquely located within an array of courtyards, to excite guests to explore the resort, with a unique concept that reflects the surrounding neighbourhoods.

The property was constructed using locally sourced materials, such as red brick, timber, thatched roofs and stones. So are the rooms, suites and villas – where you notice the use of bamboo, andesite stone, marble, and teakwood in the interior design. Each room has a private balcony overlooking the beautiful garden, pristine ocean, or the lagoon. The 578-square-metre two-bedroom Beach Villas just steps away from the sea, featuring a lush outside terrace for small gatherings, a vast living space, a swimming pool, and in-villa check-in.

FUSION DESIGN

Tierra Design architectural team leader and founder Martin Palleros impressively demonstrated his savoir-faire in capturing the essence of Bali in a contemporary expression combined with local arts. The preserved traditional Balinese kampung (village) and the Sanur area truly inspired Palleros in working on the project.

As the interior design, Yasuhiro Koichi, founder of Spin Design Studio, incorporated traditional Balinese style and ambience, but with a modern twist. Here, local materials are also used to express the woodwork’s natural colour, rustic texture and open pores. In addition, some furniture pieces from the former Bali Hyatt were remade through a recycling process and expressing the fusion of old and contemporary, accented with earth-toned fabrics and colourful batik, ikat and other traditional textiles. The design fusion is where the start of your one-of-a-kind journey to experience a contemporary Balinese village.

Not-to-be-missed are fishponds that encompass the resort’s landscape, as water is an essential part of Balinese life. Take a walk around and immerse in the delightful and calming water gardens designed by Balinese landscaper Ketut Suratman in collaboration with SHL Asia.

GREEN AND HOMELY

As you stroll around the resort, you will notice most of the buildings on the premises are integrated and constructed around existing tree roots, trunks and branches, with some trees being as old as 80 years. The architectural and interior design teams shared awareness of the need to create a unique Andaz property adhering to the concept of “Sense of Place”, whilst creating a personal style to express the resort’s original attitude.

PT Tunas Jaya Sanur was commissioned to perform all of the interior works on various room types such as Signature, Deluxe Garden and Suites, as well as the Garden Villas resulting in an exceptionally stunning hideaway.

The outdoor terrace at Signature Room

With around 70 per cent of the property reserved for green landscape, the resort takes you to blend with nature. Due to the resort’s rectangular-shaped land plot, the resort has fewer beachfront guest rooms with the shorter side facing the sea.

Some may think that Andaz Bali is a tranquil retreat. Yes, in a way, but the resort has various fun activities you can indulge in. For a more immersive Bali experience, you can choose between ocean view rooms, pool access rooms, small intimate pool view rooms and event rooms with scenes of the Village Square, as well as beach and garden villas – creating a sense of home while you are away from home.

CULINARY ENJOYMENT

You will feel the vibe of Indonesian dining culture at Andaz Bali, which houses a number of dining venues that will perk up your taste buds. Explore your culinary enjoyment, starting at the Fisherman’s Club; this resort’s signature eatery offers a modern twist on the Jimbaran seafood dining experience, with a pleasant beach club atmosphere as the background.

Next is the Village Square. Inspired by Denpasar’s shop-houses style, this integrated F&B establishment comprises four interconnecting restaurants with a private dining room. On a first-come-first-serve basis, you can choose from any menus of the said restaurants, be it Asian cuisines or Indonesian favourites, from Wok Wok all-day dining, or Fire Fox’s fresh-off-the-grill meat selection, to Blue Oven’s roasts, or the Deli & Bakery’s coffee and pastries. Each venue offers flavours that are sure to spoil your palate. If you want to have a small yet memorable celebration, upstairs at Fire Fox is a private dining room that seats up to fourteen people.

SOCIAL SPACES

A 20-minute drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport, this recent addition to Bali’s luxury resorts also offers four interconnected function rooms totalling 236 square metres for creative meetings and events. Located within a courtyard and adjacent to Wok Wok restaurant, all the four versatile spaces are fit for various business and corporate gatherings, as we welcome those business travellers seeking the pleasure of a stay in the tropical environment. Just enjoy the fresh air and natural daylight typically found in traditional local architecture. If you want to engage in outdoor activities, the beach, the garden, the beach villas, and the private courtyards are within reach.

Andaz Bali’s journey has only just begun, and we are here to greet anyone from all corners of the world. Not only do design and atmosphere determine the property’s long-term character, but what also matters is how our world-class hospitality and facilities will make every guest feel Andaz Bali as their new home.
