Venny Hermawan stands at the forefront of a new generation of Indonesian hospitality leaders. The generation that redefines what luxury means in a culturally rich and experience-driven market. As CEO of JHL Collection, she is steering the group beyond conventional hotel management into a bold and purpose-led ecosystem where design, service, and storytelling converge with clear strategic intent. With a background in visual communication design from Swinburne University, Venny brings a distinctly creative lens to hospitality.
‘Noema’ is a distinctive name. What inspired you to name this resort, and what philosophy does it represent?
The name Noema is derived from the idea of perception, creativity, and inspiration. It’s something that is felt rather than simply seen. For us, it reflects a deeper layer of hospitality, where the experience goes beyond the physical space and becomes emotional and personal.
At its core, Noema is a creative sanctuary. We believe that luxury today has shifted towards more mindful travel. It is what creates space for connection, self-expression, and authentic discovery. This is why collaboration and community are central to our philosophy, which allows the resort to evolve through art, culture, and shared experiences.
Noema Resort feels deeply intentional in its design and spatial storytelling. How did you approach balancing luxury with the cultural context of Pererenan?
From the beginning, we approached Noema with an awareness that we are part of a place shaped by its own rhythm, which is defined by nature, culture, and the local community of Pererenan. This awareness continues to guide how we think about the space today.
Our interpretation of luxury is rooted in intention and care. It is expressed through materials, spatial flow, and atmosphere that feel calm and considered. At the same time, we recognise that being part of this environment comes with responsibility. It’s something we are continuously learning and developing.
We are gradually building closer relationships with local creatives and the surrounding community, whilst exploring ways to adopt more conscious practices. It is an ongoing process, and we see it as an essential part of Noema’s evolution.
In the end, we aim to create a space that is both thoughtful and respectful, becoming increasingly in tune with its surroundings over time.
Hospitality is storytelling. What story is Noema Resort meant to tell, and how should guests feel as they move through the property?
Noema tells a story of belonging and discovery. The experience is designed to unfold naturally, with each space inviting curiosity and connection.
As guests move through the property, they encounter moments shaped by art and community. These are not merely programmatic elements, but integral parts of the narrative itself. Guests are invited to engage. Not just observe.
We want guests to feel free to be themselves, to explore, and to connect in ways that feel genuine. The goal is to create emotional experiences that linger long after their stay.
Bali is highly competitive in the luxury resort scene. What makes Noema Resort Pererenan stand apart?
What sets Noema apart is its role as a platform rather than simply a destination.
We operate at the intersection of hospitality, art, and culture. Through ongoing collaborations with creatives, musicians, and local communities, the experience is continuously evolving. Yet, it is always grounded in authenticity.
Sustainability is also central to our identity, not only in environmental practices, but in how we support and engage with the community. We aim to create an ecosystem where guests, locals, and creatives can connect meaningfully.
This makes Noema a living, dynamic space rather than a static luxury property.
How do you see the resort evolving in the future? What role will it play in shaping the broader direction of JHL Collection?
We see Noema as a foundation for the future direction of JHL Collection.
Moving forward, it will continue to evolve as a cultural hub. It is expanding collaborations in art, music, and design, whilst strengthening our sustainability efforts. Our ambition is to create more conscious and connected experiences that bring people together and support the local ecosystem.
