Temanggung in 2009, PT Prima Wana Kreasi Wood Industry has combined decades of plywood manufacturing expertise with a thoughtful understanding of contemporary design and construction. Its guiding philosophy is refreshingly straightforward: do it right from the start.
In plywood manufacturing, every stage of production is closely connected. Quality begins with the selection of raw materials and continues through peeling, drying, repairing, bonding and pressing. By preventing errors at every stage, the company believes it can reduce waste, conserve energy and save time while ensuring a consistently reliable result.
Although the Temanggung factory began operating in 2009, the company’s roots can be traced back to a family-owned plywood factory established in Jambi in 1978, when Indonesia was the world’s leading plywood exporter. The Jambi operation closed in 2006 amidst challenges that included the availability of raw materials.
Some of its machinery was later transferred to Java, but its most valuable legacy was the expertise of its people. Several experienced employees eventually reunited in Temanggung, bringing with them years of knowledge in producing plywood to export-quality standards.
Today, PT Prima Wana Kreasi serves a diverse market spanning construction and furniture. Its broader ambition, however, is to change the way plywood is perceived. Rather than remaining concealed beneath decorative finishes, well-made plywood can become an expressive design element in its own right.
This approach begins with understanding how the material will ultimately be used. The company positions itself as a consulting partner, helping clients select materials according to the required finish and performance. Plywood laminated with HPL requires a smooth outer veneer, while painted or coated furniture benefits from a different surface treatment. For the latter, the company produces boards faced with 2.5 mm MDF, removing the need for contractors to purchase, bond and prepare the two materials separately. This ready-to-use solution reduces labour and minimises the risk of errors during production.
Consistency is maintained through careful control of veneer thickness, moisture levels and bonding. Low-emission formaldehyde-based adhesives, produced to meet requirements accepted in markets such as Japan, Europe and the United States, provide reliable strength while helping to reduce emissions and lingering odours.
For the company, value extends beyond the initial purchase price. An inexpensive board that delaminates or requires additional preparation can compromise costly laminates, labour and production time. Dependable plywood creates a smoother process from cutting and finishing through to installation. It can also contribute to fresher and more comfortable interiors, particularly in homes and hotel rooms, bringing together the contractor’s need for efficiency, the designer’s pursuit of beauty and the end user’s desire for a healthier space.
The company also believes that greater collaboration can encourage more creative and responsible uses of plywood. By engaging with architects, interior designers, furniture makers and contractors from the beginning of a project, PT Prima Wana Kreasi can offer guidance that responds to both technical and aesthetic requirements. This exchange of knowledge helps ensure that the chosen board is not only suitable for its purpose but also contributes positively to the overall quality and longevity of the finished space.
Looking ahead, PT Prima Wana Kreasi hopes to inspire a deeper appreciation of plywood as a versatile material shaped by precision, experience and care. Its journey from Jambi to Temanggung reflects a commitment to preserving valuable manufacturing knowledge whilst continuing to adapt to the needs of today’s market. All in all, its philosophy remains the foundation of everything it does: when each decision is considered carefully from the outset, better materials, more efficient processes and more enduring results naturally follow.
