Perched along a west-facing waterfront between the Ivoire Golf Club and the tranquil Ebrié Lagoon, with sweeping views towards Abidjan's skyline, Ebrié Villa is a home that embraces both its remarkable setting and the rhythm of tropical living. Designed by SAOTA, the residence balances striking contemporary architecture with a deep sensitivity to its natural surroundings.

Rather than creating a grand statement, the client envisioned a home that felt intimate and personal. This inspired SAOTA to adopt a more organic architectural language, drawing from the landscape itself. Gentle curves, pavilion-inspired spaces and an expressive roof form give the villa a sculptural presence while allowing it to sit comfortably within its lush environment.

One of the home's defining features is its flowing off-shutter concrete roof. Achieving its seamless, sculptural form required meticulous planning and close collaboration with local engineers, resulting in a structure that feels both bold and effortlessly elegant. The experience of arriving at the villa is equally considered. Moving from the bustle of the street beneath a dramatic concrete canopy, visitors are gradually immersed in a calm, garden-like setting where architecture and landscape unfold together.

Throughout the home, indoor and outdoor spaces are carefully woven into one another. Courtyards, gardens and generous openings invite natural light deep into the interiors, while varying ceiling heights and long sightlines create a wonderful sense of openness. At the same time, thoughtfully positioned planting and screens provide privacy without sacrificing the home's strong connection to nature.

This seamless relationship between architecture and landscape also enhances everyday comfort. Deep roof overhangs shield the interiors from the tropical sun, while shaded courtyards encourage natural cross-ventilation, reducing reliance on air conditioning. Skylights and expansive glazing fill the home with daylight, making the villa both energy-efficient and welcoming throughout the day.

The interiors, designed in collaboration with Claude Missir, reinforce the home's quiet elegance. His philosophy centres on creating spaces that reflect the personalities of those who inhabit them rather than following passing trends. Warm timber, flamed granite flooring and beautifully crafted concrete surfaces introduce texture and warmth, complementing the villa's understated material palette.

More than simply a luxurious residence, Ebrié Villa serves as a peaceful sanctuary where modern architecture and tropical nature exist in harmony. Inspired by Abidjan's modernist heritage while embracing contemporary living, the home offers a thoughtful dialogue between the energy of the city and the serenity of the landscape.

"The best rooms have something to say about the people who live in them. Great design isn't about trends; it's about personality." — Claude Missir
