What began as a change of plans for a birthday celebration has since evolved into a boutique villa management company rooted in experience, intuition, and a deep understanding of Bali’s property landscape. More than a decade ago, Olivier and Celine Cancé purchased their first villa on the island, unknowingly setting the foundation for what would become Gravity Villa Management. Today, their story reflects not only a personal journey, but also a thoughtful response to the evolving needs of villa owners and guests alike. Indonesia Design speaks with Olivier and Celine to understand how it all came together.

A Journey That Began Unexpectedly

The story begins with a simple shift in plans. Around twelve years ago, Olivier and Celine had intended to celebrate their 40th birthday on Réunion Island. Family schedules and the looming hurricane season made the trip less appealing, prompting a spontaneous alternative. Bali, long on Celine’s list of dreams, became the destination.

What started as a holiday quickly turned into something more enduring. The couple developed a strong connection to the island, eventually purchasing their first villa, an investment that would introduce them to both the opportunities and complexities of property ownership in Bali.

From Ownership to Opportunity

The early days of Gravity Villa Management were modest. Olivier founded the company to care for his own villa, ensuring it was beautifully maintained and run with genuine attention to detail. Before long, the neighbouring owners began to notice. Their requests for support came naturally.

Growth came organically. One villa became several, and eventually a curated portfolio. Celine later joined officially as co-director, bringing structure and a shared vision to the company’s direction.

A Boutique Approach Defined by Relationship

Rather than positioning themselves against larger operators, Olivier and Celine shaped their company around a different philosophy. At its core is a commitment to personal connection.

Every owner meets the directors. Every property is managed according to individual preferences. Some owners seek frequent updates, others prefer a more hands off approach. The service adapts accordingly.

Their experience as villa owners plays a defining role. It informs how they communicate, how they manage expectations, and how they respond in moments that require immediate attention. Whether navigating day to day operations or responding to unexpected events such as seasonal flooding, their approach is grounded in transparency, trust, and responsiveness.

A Portfolio with Purpose

Today, the company manages around forty villas, many owned by international clients. A significant portion are French, alongside owners from Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and French residents based in Dubai.

The portfolio leans towards larger properties, often five or six bedrooms, designed to accommodate extended families or groups of friends. These villas offer something increasingly sought after in Bali: privacy, space, and the ability to gather without compromise.

Positioning Larger Villas in a Competitive Market

Bali’s villa market is shaped like a pyramid, with a wide base of smaller properties and far fewer large scale residences. This scarcity creates a distinct positioning for larger villas.

Six bedroom villas, in particular, cater to milestone occasions. They attract families travelling together, groups celebrating significant moments, or guests seeking a more private alternative to traditional hospitality. Expansive living areas, generous pools, and landscaped gardens naturally elevate their appeal.

For Gravity Villa Management, marketing these properties is not about volume, but clarity. It is about understanding who they are for, and presenting them in a way that resonates.

What Defines a Boutique Experience

At its essence, being boutique is not about size, but about attention. Each villa receives a level of care that balances operational performance with atmosphere and guest experience.

From maintenance and presentation to the smallest details of a guest’s stay, every element is considered. This approach reflects a combination of professional management and lived experience as property owners.

In the end, Gravity Villa Management is built on a simple but powerful idea. A villa is more than an asset. It is a place where people gather, celebrate, and create memories. Managing it well means understanding both its value and its meaning.
