Neighbourhoods have long been central to Indonesian society, fostering a sense of togetherness and enhancing daily life. Hotel Indigo embraces this ethos, blending comfort with connection to provide a home away from home. Situated 700 metres above sea level in the heart of Dago Pakar, the hotel has become an integral part of its dynamic community.
“Our neighbourhood story is tailored to each property, shaping everything from design to amenities to food and beverage,” explains General Manager Pascal Caubo. The hotel’s concept revolves around three key pillars. Welcoming Water celebrates Dago Pakar’s abundant water resources, pristine forests, and cascading waterfalls, as well as its history as a water reservoir linked to Bandung’s origins as a prehistoric lake. Masters & Makers honours the area’s rich botanical heritage and the craftsmanship of local artisans who infuse tradition into every experience. Forklore & Fables weaves the tales of water’s endless flow, from the enchanting waterfalls of Curug Batunyusun and Curug Dago to the cups of coffee and tea that are central to the region’s culture and storytelling.
Celebrating Bandung’s Charm Through Interior Design at Hotel Indigo Bandung Dago Pakar
Set against a backdrop of misty mountains, lush forests, and cascading waterfalls, Bandung’s natural beauty is thoughtfully incorporated into the hotel’s contemporary design. “The biggest challenge was extracting the essence of the neighbourhood’s story and weaving it into the overall design, translating it into the visual elements of the space,” shares a representative from P49Deesign, the Thailand-based interior design firm responsible for the project. Inspired by the surrounding mountains, the hotel’s design features flowing curves that mimic the natural landscape, with a dynamic Art Deco influence evident in its curved façade.
The team conducted extensive research and collaborated closely with the hotel owners to ensure the design reflected Bandung’s unique spirit. Drawing inspiration from the city’s misty mountains, dense forests, and waterfalls, the design also incorporates cultural elements from West Java’s traditions and colonial history. Towering pillars in the lobby evoke a forest-like ambiance, whilst the décor combines colonial furniture with Batik- patterned rugs and graffiti-inspired accents. Cocoon-like structures pay homage to Tangkuban Perahu, and curved lines flow from the façade to the interior, creating a harmonious continuity.
Lobby Inspired by Nature and Local Culture
The lobby, with expansive windows framing the verdant scenery, provides an immersive experience that captures the serene charm of Dago Pakar. P49Deesign sophisticatedly blends nature, culture, and history into every detail.
The design of the lobby extends the theme of flowing curves, echoing the building’s cliffside location with sweeping views of the surrounding greenery. Historically, Dago Pakar has been a place of gathering, as its name “Dago” derives from the Sundanese word “dagoan,” meaning “to wait.” The area’s heritage as a meeting point for locals and a retreat for colonial-era Europeans is woven into the space.
A standout feature of the lobby is the back wall, which serves as a vibrant canvas for showcasing the rich history and culture of Dago and Bandung. Adorned with a mosaic of 5x5 cm batik stamps, the wall depicts elements of Sundanese culture such as Cepot, angklung, bamboo, waterfalls, and traditional dances. The famous fable of Kancil and Si Leungli is also represented, adding a playful touch. Vibrant colours reflect Hotel Indigo’s brand identity whilst celebrating Bandung’s dynamic spirit.
The use of local materials, such as rammed earth walls, grounds the design in authenticity. The ‘Dagoan Lounge,’ located in the lobby, enhances the welcoming atmosphere with its blend of rustic and modern elements, including graffiti-inspired murals, traditional gerobak stalls, and batik ceramics. Guests can relax in cosy seating whilst enjoying snacks, drinks, and panoramic views of the hills.
Nature-Spirited Rooms
Hotel Indigo offers 277 rooms and suites across 12 distinct categories, each designed to reflect the vibrant culture of Dago Pakar. From the standard city-view room (33 sqm) to the expansive two-bedroom penthouse suite (223 sqm), the interiors feature wavy lines in tapestry motifs and bed backdrops, inspired by the surrounding mountains. Carpets cut in curved shapes add warmth to the soothing colour palette, whilst vibrant accents evoke the region’s waterfalls, batik traditions, and topographic contours. Guests can enjoy breathtaking views and unwind on comfortable daybeds.
Dining and Amenities
The hotel’s main restaurant, Joempa, serves a wide selection of Indonesian, Bandung-inspired, and international dishes, bringing the essence of Dago Pakar to life. Soon, the rooftop restaurant and bar, Karbon, will offer a unique dining experience with Asian grill and smokehouse concepts. Guests can also enjoy the serene infinity pool, a Kids Club, named “Kancil Club,” featuring traditional Sundanese games, a 24-hour gym, in- room dining, and nine meeting rooms, some with stunning city views. For grander occasions, the hotel’s spacious Grand Ballroom is ideal for events ranging from intimate gatherings to lavish weddings.
Hotel Indigo Bandung Dago Pakar is more than a hotel. It is a living narrative of Dago Pakar’s nature, culture, and community, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the beauty and spirit of Bandung.
