Indonesia’s growing creative confidence is making a strong impression at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026. On 22 April, the IDD Pavilion welcomed the Indonesian Ambassador to Italy, Professor Dr Junimart Girsang, alongside representatives of the Indonesian Embassy in Rome and the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) Milan.
The delegation was received by Ipeng Widjojo, CEO of Indonesia Design District (IDD), who guided the guests through the pavilion and its presentation, House of Indonesia. More than a showcase of individual products, the collaborative pavilion brings together designers, manufacturers, material innovators and creative communities to introduce Indonesia as an integrated design ecosystem with global potential.
Curated by acclaimed Indonesian designer Alvin Tjitrowirjo, the collection celebrates a contemporary design language that remains closely connected to the country’s materials, craftsmanship and cultural identity. The pavilion’s interior, designed by Santi Alaysius, founder of Domisilium Studio, creates a cohesive setting in which diverse ideas and objects come together as one compelling national narrative.
“This participation is a valuable opportunity to introduce the distinctive character of Indonesian design,” said Alvin. “Through the IDD Pavilion, we demonstrate that Indonesia has an ecosystem capable of developing strong concepts, delivering thoughtful design and producing work of an international standard.”
During his visit, Ambassador Junimart also met Indonesia’s emerging talents at SaloneSatellite. Studio Banda, Zulyo Kumara and Cynthia Margareth are presenting their work alongside hundreds of young creatives from around the world, reflecting the energy and ambition of a new generation of Indonesian designers.
The ambassador praised both their dedication and IDD’s commitment to expanding Indonesia’s presence internationally. “We greatly appreciate the passion and dedication demonstrated by Indonesia Design District,” he said. “Initiatives such as this are essential in ensuring that Indonesian design becomes increasingly recognised and celebrated on the global stage.”
Indonesia’s participation at the world-renowned furniture and design fair is supported by a cross-sector collaboration involving the Ministry of Creative Economy, the Ministry of Trade, the Indonesia Design Development Centre, ITPC Milan and the Indonesian Embassy in Rome.
Running from 21 to 26 April 2026, the presentation reinforces Indonesia’s evolving position in the international design landscape—not simply as a market, but as an increasingly influential contributor to material innovation, furniture and interior architecture.
