Italian Design Day

"Created in Italy: An Aptitude for the Impossible" is an exhibition of industrial products designed by Italian designers for various industries. It is part of this year’s Italian Design Day, that is organised by the Italian embassies, cultural institutes and consulate generals around the world. The exhibition in Jakarta is running from 9 March until 6 April 2023 at National Gallery of Indonesia.

Created in Italy: An Aptitude for the Impossible

Thirty one products that are displayed in the Hall A of National Gallery of Indonesia represent an amazing story about the drive for creating, technical ability, tenacity for perfection and the ability to break through the impossible. They are produced and applied for different industries, from furniture to automotive, fashion and more.

Curator Odo Fioravanti communicates that Italy is not famous only for Renaissance Art but also for contemporary art as artists and designers continue to be innovative in high-tech products and aim at improving the quality and the sustainability of human’s life.

Some of the products displayed in the exhibition are:

Alpi Sottsass Red by Ettore Sottsass - Alpi Pointillisme by Alessandro Mendini - Alpi Sottsass Orange by Ettore Sottsass.

Dainese Sea-Guard and Dainese D-air Smart Jacket by Lino Dainese.

Frida Chair by Odo Fioravanti.

Laminate for decorative surfaces by Abet Laminati.

The exhibition is part of the Italian Design Day 2023, organised by Embassy of Italy in Jakarta and Italian Cultural Institute Jakarta in collaboration with National Gallery of Indonesia, Agency for Museum and Heritage, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.

The opening of the exhibition was officiated by the Ambassador of Italy to Indonesia HE Benedetto Latteri and Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Adlin Sila, M.A., Ph.D., Expert Staff to the Minister Institutional Relation and Society of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Republic of Indonesia. Also present at the ceremony, Assia Karaguiozova, Testimonial of Italian Design Day 2023.

Odo is guiding the guests through the exhibition.

Other than the exhibition, "Created in Italy: An Aptitude for the Impossible" also consists of a seminar with Assia and Odo as the speakers and architect Budi Pradono as the moderator on 9 March 2023, and a talk session with Assia about the essence of light with Assia held in University of Bina Nusantara on 10 March 2023.
