The annual LDAD took place on 1 October 2024 at Ciputra Artpreneur, Jakarta. Attended by architects and designers, it featured presentations from two Indonesia’s renown architects, Budi Sumaatmadja of Anggara Architeam and Budiman Hendropurnomo of DCM Jakarta, and two keynote speakers, Olga Bolshanina, associate partner at Herzog & de Meuron, and David Gianotten, managing partner of OMA.
The main event of LDAD started with a welcome speech from Santa Firmansjah, President Director of LIXIL. Continued with an introduction from Antoine Besseyre des Horts, Leader, LIXIL Global Design Asia.
Presentation and discussion at LDAD was moderated by Kamil Muhammad, design director of pppooolll. Each speaker presented their projects in which adaptive architecture and generative architecture principles are applied.
The first session was a presentation by Budi Sumaatmadja, principal of Anggara Architeam. Budi presented 2 of his adaptive architecture projects: the renovation of Indonesia’s historical hotel that’s now Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, and the rejuvenation of Epiwalk Lifestyle Center.
Next session, a presentation by Budiman Hendropurnomo, director of DCM Jakarta. He presented a couple of DCM Jakarta’s projects which applied adaptive architecture in the aspects of energy, concept, and reuse. They include DSN Headquarter, Apurva Kempinski, Maya Ubud, Ra Suites, and more.
After coffee break, LDAD continued with keynote speaker Olga Bolshanina, associate partner at Herzog & de Meuron, an international architectural practice based in Basel, Switzerland. Olga presented four projects of Herzog & de Meuron: Tate Modern in London, Tai Kwun in Hong Kong, Badaevskiy Brewery in Moscow, and 1111 Lincoln Road in Miami. Each with its unique challenges and solutions.
Up next was David Gianotten, managing partner of OMA, an international practice operating within architecture and urbanism, headquartered in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. David presented some of OMA’s projects with regenerative architecture principles: Bajes Kwartier in Amsterdam, Desa Potatohead in Bali, AIR CCCC in Singapoore, Taipei Performing Art Center, and White Cube in Congo.
The event ended with the winner announcement of LIXIL Architectural Design Competition (LADC) for professional category and fresh graduate category. Congratulations to the winners!
