Marka/Matriks (Marker/Matrix), which runs on 19 April – 18 May 2025 at Galeri Salihara, is an exhibition that celebrates the art of printmaking as a terrain of artistic practice that continues to advance, evolve, and transform in the Southeast Asian contemporary landscape.
This exhibition features 30 artists from Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, presenting more than 105 works.
The curator of Galeri Komunitas Salihara, Asikin Hasan, stated that the works in this exhibition can provide an exploratory space and foster discourses in the art of printmaking across Southeast Asia.
“The participating artists in this exhibition went beyond using renowned techniques, as they dared to explore alternative materials and unusual tools. In this exhibition, we will see how printmaking functioned as a bridge that connects various media and allows space for further exploration,” Asikin wrote in a statement.
Initiators of the exhibition, master printmaker Devy Ferdianto and renowned poet Goenawan Mohamad attended the vernissage while their works were also showcased.
Devy showcased three works: Re-Imaging Ms. Mona, Orange, and Pumpkin; using gum oil with screen print on cotton paper.
Goenawan the poet, who had taken creative leaps and started exhibiting sketches in 2016, also showcased three works: Angelus Novus I, Angelus Novus II, and Naik ke Darat. Goenawan’s works involved etching, aquatint, and paper.
Marka/Matriks runs until 18 May 2025 every Tuesday – Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The entrance pass is available for purchase at tiket.saliharga.org.
