The first wristwatch was made by Swiss manufacturer Patek Phillipe for Countess Koscowicz of Hungary in 1868. It was a rectangular, yellow gold piece, set in diamonds that appeared more like a piece of jewelery than a watch. It didn’t catch on but those companies that did follow-suit, designed it as ladies watches with fixed wire chain and chain-link bracelets.
