Part of the portfolio of Pan Pacific Hotels Group, a member of the Singapore-listed UOL Group, the resort boasts architecture and landscaping that are sophisticatedly designed to harmoniously integrate with the natural surroundings. This approach provides guests not just with a place to stay but with a holistic experience that reflects the beauty of Langkawi. From spacious rooms to lush gardens, every aspect is crafted to enhance comfort and enjoyment, making it a perfect choice for leisure and exploration.
Opened in February 2023, the resort has enhanced Langkawi’s natural beauty, offering a blend of comfort and elegance that makes guests feel at home amidst breathtaking landscapes.
A Thoughtful Design
The architectural vision behind PARKROYAL Langkawi Resort was brought to life by Tonny Wirawan Suriadjaja, the principal at TWS & Partners, a Jakarta- based architecture and interior company. The project, which took over a decade to complete due to pandemic-related challenges, combines commercial functionality with resort charm. “The design concept reflects Langkawi’s identity, as its name means ‘Island of the Eagle.’ We aimed to incorporate that symbolism into our architecture,” he shared.
To enhance the guest experience, the resort has included various amenities such as an indoor playground, jogging tracks, and spacious open areas that encourage interaction with the natural surroundings. Thus, the design focuses on creating a smooth flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.
In corresponding with this, Tonny emphasised the careful consideration of outdoor and indoor spaces, explaining, “Our design philosophy was to allow guests to enjoy the natural environment without the harshness of the sun.” This integration of green spaces enhances the resort’s beauty whilst promoting sustainability.
Sustainable Practices at PARKROYAL Langkawi Resort
Anggia Murni, the principal and landscape architect from the Jakarta-based Tropica Greeneries, played a pivotal role in ensuring that the resort’s landscaping aligns with sustainable practices.
She addressed the challenges of creating a tropical landscape, stating, “We aimed for a Bali-like aesthetic but had to navigate various maintenance limitations. Our solution was to implement a smart irrigation system, which uses recycled water for landscaping, ensuring both beauty and sustainability.”
By incorporating native plants and advanced irrigation techniques, the resort maintains its lush environment whilst minimising its ecological footprint.
Murni explained further, “Our focus is on selecting the right plants for the right locations. In front of the lobby, we planted bunga raya or hibiscus, Malaysia’s national flower. We’ve also added lighting to support growth in shaded areas. This approach enhances natural beauty whilst remaining environmentally conscious.”
A Blend of Luxury and Nature
With 300 modern rooms, suites, and seven exclusive villas, the resort is designed to offer guests direct access to the beach and breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea. Each room reflects a tropical aesthetic, so as to ensure a comfortable and tranquil retreat. The Superior Room is one example, as it features bright and airy spaces, with an ensuite bathroom fitted with a refreshing rain shower. Meanwhile, the Premier Ocean View Room boasts an expansive layout with a private balcony overlooking the sea.
Families are well catered to, with options like the Family Superior Suite, designed for both privacy and bonding, as it features distinct sleeping areas for parents and children. Au Yong, the resort’s general manager, affirms the commitment to family-friendly experiences, saying, “We aim to create memories that families can cherish for a lifetime whilst ensuring comfort and luxury are never compromised.”
Culinary Convenience
Whilst the resort’s design and functionality are exceptional, the property’s culinary offerings provide a sensory journey. Dining at PARKROYAL Langkawi Resort features a variety of local cuisines and international fare in a comfy ambiance. At Cassia, guests can choose from buffet and à la carte options available daily from 7AM - 10:30PM. So, you can enjoy meals at your convenience. Families traveling with children will appreciate the extensive children’s menu, ensuring even the youngest diners find something appealing.
For a Mediterranean experience, Lancava presents the unique flavours of Mediterranean cuisine, recreated in Langkawi using the finest locally sourced produce and the freshest herbs and vegetables. This establishment is where you are taken to the Adriatic through the signature gourmet moment. Lancava is open Wednesday to Monday (except Tuesday) for dinner only.
For a more laid-back atmosphere, the Ocean View Lounge is a must-visit. Here, guests can unwind whilst enjoying live entertainment in a stylish alfresco venue that boasts stunning views and a refreshing sea breeze. Open from 11AM to midnight, the lounge invites you to soak up the vibrant atmosphere throughout the day.
“Our culinary team is passionate about providing an exceptional dining experience, making every meal memorable,” Au Yong asserted, adding, “The commitment to quality and flavour shines through in every dish, making dining at this resort a highlight of the stay.”
