Located on the southern coast of Lombok, Pullman Lombok Merujani Mandalika Beach Resort is now open to a new class of travellers, offering easy access to the natural beauty of the island and South East Asia’s most thrilling motorsports events.

The Pullman Lombok Merujani Mandalika Beach Resort stands as Accor’s inaugural five-star resort in Lombok. Nestled within Mandalika, a paramount tourism destination, the resort offers convenient proximity to the prestigious Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, which is home to renowned motorsport events such as MotoGP and the World Superbike. Embodying the Indonesia Tourism Development initiative, this exceptional circuit and the high-end resort symbolise the area’s evolution from a serene backpacker enclave to a sophisticated global destination.

Lombok Island, a destination of breath- taking beauty akin to its famous western counterpart, is easily accessible. Guests can reach the resort with a mere two- hour flight from Jakarta or a quick 40-minute trip from Bali. Upon arrival at Lombok International Airport, a smooth and picturesque 20-minute drive on the newly constructed road leads guests to the resort.

The resort offers 257 well-appointed rooms, spacious suites, and villas
that seamlessly blend modern room interiors with traditional Sasak art, which is influenced by the indigenous tribe of Lombok. Each room provides guests with a luxurious experience, featuring a private balcony that boasts magnificent views of the Indian Ocean or the lush gardens.

Designed by architect AECOM Indonesia and Quadratura Indonesia, the architecture of this contemporary beachfront resort in South Lombok draws inspiration from the island’s local architecture and culture. “The hotel’s design concept represents the rich culture of West Nusa Tenggara, particularly in the southern region where the Mandalika area is located,” Doti Windajani from Quadratura Indonesia explained, initiating our conversation.

She further elaborated, “The roofs of the buildings feature a pronounced slope, reminiscent of the traditional roofs in Lombok. We have also incorporated Mandalika floral patterns into various architectural façade elements.” The inclusion of tall roofs draws inspiration from the 16th-century Berugak philosophy, which is associated with the traditional houses of the Sasak tribe. These houses are characterised by their soaring roofs and spacious, open rooms.”

Upon arrival at the resort, guests are warmly greeted by The Junction, an open-air lobby. As they step inside, they are immediately immersed in the captivating local arts of Lombok, with bronze Mandalika flower ornaments adorning both sides of the pathway leading to the lobby area.

The lobby goes beyond being a mere arrival point. Its contemporary and open-air design allows guests to relish the breath-taking and uninterrupted vistas of the resort’s main pool and the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean. For the observant ones, their attention is captivated by the walls behind the reception desk, adorned with vibrant marine artwork panels and cloud-shaped lamps. These elements enhance the relaxed ambiance as guests step into the hotel lobby, blending classic contemporary features with a touch of local tradition.

“The Mandalika flower becomes an iconic element that imbues the surrounding nature with a new and captivating form. It serves as the centrepiece, introducing vibrant shapes and colours that infuse the interior of the building with energy, dynamism, and elegance,” Doti explained. Apart from showcasing the local culture, the building’s interior also embodies Accor’s fresh and youthful spirit symbolism.

The architecture of this striking 257-room resort embraces a modern approach to beachfront hospitality, seamlessly blending local culture with contemporary arts. The influence of Sasak motifs is prominently displayed in each room, evident in intricately carved closet doors and nightstands. By harmoniously integrating the stylish Pullman concepts with the artistry of Indonesian designers, the resort ensures a vibrant experience that permeates every aspect of the guests’ stay.

When asked what the challenges were in building this South Lombok’s beautiful beach resort, Doti responded that the biggest challenge in planning and implementing the project was maintaining 09 the quality of the work and the timely completion. “These challenges are then tried to be overcome through coordination between consultants, contractors, owners, operators, and other related parties.”

The challenges of building the resorts paid off when Doti and her partners witnessed the warm reception of the beach resort, with guests enjoying their convenient stay. Indeed, Pullman Lombok Merujani Mandalika Beach Resort has become a vibrant and thriving destination.

The resort boasts four dining venues, but none are as prominent as its two signature F&B establishments. Aer Restaurant, an all-day dining venue, offers a delightful selection of classic comfort dishes and creatively fused flavours.

Meanwhile, Sgara Seafood Restaurant provides an idyllic setting for enjoying the spectacular sunset and the day’s freshest catch. In addition, the resort offers two other exceptional dining and drinking options: the Instagram-worthy Lalo Swim-Up Bar, serving light bites and refreshing beverages by the resort’s free-form swimming pool. No less interesting is The Lobby Lounge, an inviting open- air ambiance to unwind and relish the stunning sunset or enjoy a nightcap or two.

In addition to a beautifully secluded beach and a meticulously designed main pool, the resort comes with a state-of-the-art smart fitness lounge that offers Pullman’s Global Fit programs. Guests can avail themselves of experienced trainers, specialty classes, as well as the latest exercise and weight equipment. Moreover, the resort boasts the Pullman Spa, a contemporary wellness sanctuary comprising four indulgent treatment pavilions, reflexology chairs, and a team of locally trained expert therapists.

Lombok is truly blessed with majestic scenery, offering guests convenient access to the region’s finest surfing and snorkelling spots. Land enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the exploration of winding trails amidst the lush, forested hills, all whilst enjoying the captivating sunsets over the Indian Ocean. It is worth highlighting that the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit will host world-class motorsport events, attracting racing enthusiasts from across the globe to visit Lombok and experience a remarkable stay at this prestigious resort.
