In the spirit of World Refugee Awareness, which falls on 20 June every year, R Home Indonesia held a fashion show for a charity fundraiser to the benefit of refugees in Indonesia, in collaboration with Alleira Batik. The event took place in Mitra Hadiprana, Kemang, South Jakarta, on Monday 27 June 2022. The fashion show was supported by spouses of ambassadors, journalists and donors as the models.

R Home is a nonprofit organisation that supports creativity empowerment for women and young refugee in Indonesia, while Alleira Batik has done many charity projects for other social causes before this. R Home was founded by Tiffany Mihardja, a 19 year-old student entrepreneur, who deeply concerns about the lives of the refugees in Indonesia.

It is hard for them to have to spend years in the refugee camps not knowing what the future may hold for them. She coordinated the batik workshop for the refugees in Cisarua, West Java, and then managed to have the painted batik to be printed and turned into merchandise and fashion items. Aside from financial benefit, R Home believes that painting is a therapeutic means to release emotions.

The program is also supported by UNHCR, whose representative, Ann Maymann, also attended the event. According to Ann there are more or less 3,000 children refugees at the present time. They came from Afghanistan, Somalia and Myanmar, among others. Tiffany hopes that in 5 years from now she still continues with this activism and more refugees will be positively impacted.

Puri Hadiprana officially opened the fashion show.
