Classical forms, lattice-inspired marquetry and modular living come together in the third collaboration between the Indonesian furniture maker and the award-winning product designer.
Saniharto, one of Indonesia’s leading manufacturers of custom, state-of-the-art contract furniture for the luxury hospitality market and residential projects, has launched Timeless Silhouettes, a new collection created with product designer Alvin Tjitrowirjo, known for his award-winning work. The collection was unveiled at the Saniharto Showroom in Jakarta.
Timeless Silhouettes reconsiders classical furniture silhouettes through new proportions. It translates Asian lattice patterns into intricate marquetry, expresses traditional woodworking through sculpted details, and responds to increasingly fluid ways of inhabiting the home with modularity.
Merrysia Enggalhardjo, CEO of Saniharto, says Alvin’s creativity and distinctive design perspective align with the company’s vision to preserve its heritage while continuing to evolve through timeless design.
“With Timeless Silhouettes, we bring together Alvin’s creative vision and our expertise in craftsmanship to create designs that remain relevant for generations to come,” says Merrysia.
Dawan: softness held by structure
At the centre of the collection is Dawan, a family of seating defined by generous upholstered forms held within precise timber structures. Its hero piece, the Dawan Modular Sofa, can be composed in different configurations, allowing it to respond to different spaces, occasions and ways of gathering. The family extends into a club armchair, dining armchair and bar stool, carrying the same dialogue between softness and structure across different moments of living.
Matra: a table with a rhythmic surface
Matra, a dining table, draws from the geometric language of Asian latticework. Its expansive tabletop uses intricate marquetry to create a rhythmic patterned surface, balanced by sculpted legs that give the piece a grounded architectural presence.
Walden: simplicity, distilled
The Walden Lounge Chair, inspired by Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, reflects on simplicity and intentional living. Its familiar wooden archetype is distilled into considered lines and essential elements, pairing an exposed timber frame with soft upholstery.
“With this collection, we want to say that moving forward does not always mean leaving things behind. Sometimes, it means deciding what is worth carrying with us,” says Alvin.
A longstanding spirit of collaboration
For Saniharto, Timeless Silhouettes also continues a longstanding commitment to collaboration as a way of expanding the possibilities of furniture making. Since 2015, the company has worked with Indonesian and international designers and creative practices, including Francine Denise, Mudita Lestari, Alvin Tjitrowirjo of AlvinT, Sammy H. Syamsulhadi of SHS & Associates and SHS Living, Hans Susantio of VINDATE Interior, P Club Group Singapore, Budi Kurniawan and Vivianne Faye.
Timeless Silhouettes marks the third collaboration between Saniharto and Alvin, continuing a creative relationship that includes New Age Luxury in 2017 and Objects of Living in 2023.
