Aboard Opulent Living 2025, The Royal Suite unfolds as a meditation on peace, movement, and the quiet poetry of the sea. Designed by Kelvin Thengono of K-Thengono Studio under the theme Tide of Calm, the suite draws from the rhythm of the ocean, from its wild surface to its profound stillness below. It reflects on how tranquillity can emerge from motion, how serenity can rise from chaos, and how design can become a gentle vessel for clarity and breath.
The suite flows through a sequence of spaces that include a bedroom, walk in closet, open bathroom, leisure area, and foyer. Each area is wrapped in a semi-transparent woven mesh shaped into soft, undulating curves that recall waves rising and receding. This tender geometry creates the sensation of drifting, encouraging visitors to slow down and feel the subtle shifts of light and space. Within this cocoon of curves, the suite becomes a true retreat, a place to rest, reconnect, and reclaim moments of quiet either alone or with loved ones. Its soothing palette and diffused lighting lend an atmosphere that feels almost meditative.
Furniture selection deepens the emotional experience. Kelvin curated a harmonious constellation of designer pieces chosen for their ability to complete rather than overpower the architecture. From Casa Italia, the Calligaris Ginza Sofa traces the room’s fluid lines, its curved silhouette offering a place where the body can soften and the mind can drift. In the bedroom, the Lago Vele bed appears to float gently above the floor, echoing the sensation of lightness that defines the suite and mirroring the “sea” that unfurls beyond its sculpted walls.
Kelvin also sourced pieces from MOIE, believing in their resonance with the philosophy of quiet luxury. The Poliform walk in closet and wall system creates a refined backdrop for garments as well as a special display of Adelle Jewellery pieces. A sculptural Tom Dixon lamp adds a distinctive glow. Its organic shape and refined materiality embody Kelvin’s belief that luxury is expressed most beautifully through subtle form, honest texture, and thoughtful restraint.
The open bathroom becomes the most contemplative moment within the suite. Interpreting the exhibition’s theme Embarking on a Design Odyssey, Kelvin expresses the idea of water through gentle rhythms and calm horizons. Outfitted with sanitary wares by GROHE SPA, the bathroom unfolds like a quiet voyage where one moves from space to space as if following the tide. Materials are allowed to breathe, transitions feel unforced, and calm emerges in the pauses between details. GROHE SPA’s brushed hard graphite finish introduces an understated texture that pairs elegantly with dark wood tones and smooth marble floors, reinforcing the idea that true luxury is found in nuance rather than excess.
Lighting shapes the emotional landscape of the suite. In collaboration with Erreluce, Kelvin created a choreography of soft illumination, subtle highlights, and gentle shadows. This lighting approach creates a cocooning stillness while guiding the eye toward the suite’s layered materials and sculptural contours.
